2010 mix!

This is a bit of a personal entry. Getting to know me. Getting to know you.
This mix is about 2010. Each song does have a special place in my heart for one reason or another.

1) ....And the hazy sea - Cymbals Eat Guitars

In the beginning of the year I went on an amazing road trip with two of my housemates and even though we didn't listen to this song at the time. It just reminds me of that trip and summer and being happy.

2) Swimmers - Broken Social Scene

Tram rides to and from work and to and from a new studio space. Sewing and sweating. Getting cranky and listening to this. Planning trips to far off lands.

3) Odessa - Caribou

Autumn setting in.

4) Say it ain't so - Weezer

Drunken sing alongs in various locations.

5) A Sunday Smile - Beirut

Being walked to the tram stop on a cold winter morning and not caring that I hated my job and the morning commute. Listening to this and feeling content

6) Excuses - The Morning Benders

It's about sex. And lovin'. And has great harmonies. I like all of these.

7) Winter's Love - Animal Collective

8) Bicycle - Memory Tapes

Hey Japan! I like your mountains.

9) Master of None - Beach House

It was raining, I was walking along the yarra quite early in the morning, there were tears and I was listening to this album on repeat.
I remember thinking how perfect all these elements were together.

10) Give him a great big kiss - The Shangri-las

Dancing to this in my loungeroom with three male friends really wasted after Spanish Festival. I was told to never tell repeat the story.

11) Once in a Lifetime - Talking Heads

Making life decisions while listening to David Byrne.

Love you David!

12) Tyrant Destroyed - Twin Shadow

Another rainy moment....

13) Death of the Party - Blur

Deciding to move to London so I can marry Graham Coxon.

And that was 2010....

And in a smooth act of theme-progression: here's one one loan from a friend, by melbourne band Wizard Oz. Fuzzy, fanciful chanty stuff - and nary a hint of pantomime (hooray).

Another op-shop find, thank you Northcote. I obviously picked this up for it's inspired texta work and brick-veneered "Oz". (I like to think that that is a severed pink angel's wing in the background.) Listened to it for the first time today...and it reminded me why I hate music theatre.

I picked this tape up from an op-shop in Newcastle. Can't say I recognise any of the artists, but all of the songs generally feature a bit of soft piano, long wavering vowels and an absence of percussion (save cymbals and the odd bell chime). Side A is titled "The Best of Vera Lynn". Am saving that one for a rainy day.

Great Memories, Classic Hits...

Here are some belated images of Cassexx at the TINA zine fair. Just in time to inspire the Christmas mixtape-making season.
