I moved out of home when I was 18 to an apartment in Newcastle in an area that was known for its junkies and thefts. My friend from high school and myself where extremely poor as we practically lived off my centrelink payments as her youth allowance could only just cover the rent. We would write a grocery list that had pasta, sweet chilli sauce, cask of wine and cigarettes on it. The view from our balcony was off this park and the walk up the hill to get to our house would kill our lungs everyday.
We would go to the library every week or so and trawl through the cds and borrow the latest and greatest hits albums that we couldn't afford. Of course we didn't have a computer or the internet.... So this was the way we would build our music collection. Albums that I particularly like I would record onto cassettes. Those days my cassette collection would of been over 50 individual tapes. All numbered of course.
A friend of mine that I would talk music with told me about Belle and Sebastian. So I went to the library and borrowed the 'Dog on Wheels' e.p and the '3...6...9 seconds of light' e.p. I taped them both on to one side of a cassette that was originally a copy of Michael Jackson 'Dangerous' that I had received for a Christmas one year. That cassette has stayed with me to this day. Through all my houses and states and times when I've wanted to hide away and times when I've just wanted to sit and do nothing. The label has chipped away. There is still that little bit where I've accidently taped 5 seconds of a Gerling track.
This weekend I'm going to Golden Plains and I'm going to see them play live. I don't know. I don't think it will live up to my little recorded cassette memories.

Gold Star
A gold star goes to our latest mixed tape collaborator who posted the tape back in the speediest of time! Amazing! He kept to the time limit! Ahhh it has restored my faith in the project....
He added this song to the 1997 tape and doubly put a smile on my face
So next round of posting will happen tomorrow with 1997 and open theme hitting the postal system and possibly your postal box. I am also going to re-enter the Winter themed tape, as sadly, it is upon us.
Farewell summer you were rad! I will always remember the time I was on a rooftop and el guincho played. And when Beach House came to town and I fell in love again. Oh and when we smashed pinatas on a rooftop and sat in the park and reached ultimate chill levels.
xx Love you summer xx

Fine & Dandenongs
Had a sweet old day-trip to the Dandenongs today. Passengers 1 and 2 bought some cds but were trumped by the driver, who made a mix (triple points for the pun).
Featured this....
and a bit of this....
but then we went to Miss Marple's tea room which is kind of sombering, and returned to the car to listen to this...
and it was raining all day anyway.
